In a school of 350 white students and only 18 black students, Montpelier High School made history on Friday. The faculty and staff raised their very own Black Lives Matter Flag in honor of Black History Month.
The 18 black students received support from more than 100 people during the ceremony, including police officers, other school and families. Although the school has received negative backlash, principle Mike McRaith still see a positive impact.
“We are committed to improvement and this dialogue and to work for equity and racial justice in our school system,” Says McRaith.
Social Media has also voiced their opinions on the issue.
The Black Lives Matter Flag will be remembered along with the Black Lives Matter Activist Muhiyidin Moye.
He was shot and killed in New Orleans on Tuesday. Moye is known for removing a confederate flag from a protestor on live television. The video went viral in 2017
